Athelera LLC Supports Youth Mentoring Programs in New York City

Convinced that we all need friends in our lives, the Athelera team wishes to provide at-risk children and youth with support and guidance to help them overcome obstacles and find their way to a professionally and emotionally fulfilled future.

Members of Athelera have chosen to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City in a meaningful way, aiming to establishing a long-term relationship. In addition to donating a portion of annual profits to the agency, staff will enroll in the mentoring program, becoming "Bigs" matched with "Littles"

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City

Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is the oldest chapter in what has grown to be largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. It has been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6 through 18, in communities, in schools and at worksites.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to help children reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships that have a measurable impact on youth. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Vision is to create successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.

Research has shown that mentoring works. It has the power to change lives. Among the children who participate in BBBS of NYC´s programs:

Members of Athelera Team Become Big Brothers & Big Sisters

Members of Athelera Team decided to volunteer part of their free time and enroll in the Workplace Mentoring Program. Big Brother Big Sisters of New York City created the Workplace program for corporate sponsors that wished to encourage volunteering among employees and to accommodate the busy schedules of working professionals. In the workplace program, junior or senior high school students are brought to a worksite where they meet their mentors in a group for two hours every two weeks during the school year.

Working professionals have vital information and experience to offer disadvantaged youth ages 12-17, many of whom never hope to enter offices in the imposing commercial buildings that dominate Manhattan´s landscape. Big Brothers Big Sisters of New York City is creating a mentoring model especially for Athelera that will foster a family-like relationship among all staff "Bigs" and their "Littles." In this model, Athelera staff members all become Big Brothers and Big Sisters of their workplace mentees.

The program at Athelera LLC starts in January 2009.
